COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in most economic activities coming to a grinding halt across the globe. It has particularly hit hard daily wagers, street vendors as well as people from the weaker sections of the society and to make matters worse, there is a lot of uncertainty around when economic activities would come back to normal?. India like any other country of the world, is also bearing the brunt of deadly virus pandemic and accounting many
numbers of deaths every day.

Social Umbrella Foundation (SUF), a govt approved NGO, has stepped in with its dedicated team to first calm the nerves of these people who are not able to gauge the pandemic and its impact. First of all special awareness sessions are conducted to explain to them in detail highly contagious nature of the virus and importance of hygiene and social distancing when the whole of India is under lock-down. This will help in bringing down their anxiety and fear. Social Umbrella Foundation is also providing cooked /uncooked food to them and arranging shelter depending on need,
since all these people are struggling hard for their survival, having lost livelihood and unsure when would the situation normalize. Many of them have not been able to go back to their native places in the absence of inter-district movement permissions. We at SUF feel these small initiatives definitely make them feel loved and cared.

Personal hygiene is another area which has been the deep concern of this foundation and also the requirement of present time. Our team is working tirelessly by not only providing them masks and sanitisers but also making them aware how to use to protect themselves and its benefits. The most essential commodity like sanitary pads are also being distributed amongst women. Children who are unaware of the ongoing emergency situation in the country are perplexed and scared. Social Umbrella Foundation is distributing pictures books, colors and pencils and coloring books to these toddlers who can spend their time inside the house safely.

With Covid-19 having adversely affected the population and our police serving the nation day and night, water bottles were distributed to the policemen at various checkpoints in Haryana. We are giving them live demonstration of proper hand wash and importance of social distancing so that they can be safe and healthy.

Our NGO has long been working in the service of humanity including in the times of such crisis. Its major focus has always been welfare of underprivileged and weaker sections of the society. Our team mission is simple … no one should sleep hungry. Humanity is not locked down. Compassion and humane approach of people will make
difference in the society in these difficult times.

Nothing brings us more happiness than trying to help the most vulnerable people in the society. It is our goal and an essential part of Social Umbrella Foundation—a kind of destiny. We are trying to bring smile in troubled times, trying hard to gather strength from distress and trying to grow brave. We believe, like earlier, this storm shall also
pass.
